What is Title I?

Title I is a federally funded program implemented to help students in need of improving reading and math skills.  Title I funds are based on the number of students qualifying for the Mississippi Free and Reduced Lunch program.  Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary does not participate in the states Free and Reduced Lunch program but does require our families to complete the information in order to qualify for the Title I program.  The Free and Reduced forms are available and administered to the parents in March.

At Sacred Heart Catholic Elementary the funds are used to support a certified teacher to tutor students qualifying for the Title I program.

English as a Second Language (ESL)

ESL, English as a Second Language, is a program to help students to improve their proficient with the English language.  Forms are available at registration and are to be completed by the parent or guardian.  The forms are used to identify students in need of the benefits of the ESL program.
